Nov 26, 1862 : Born in Budapest, Hungary.
   
1871-1879 : Formal education and schooling in Dresden and Budapest .
   
1880- 1883 :

Studied at the universities of Vienna, Leipzig, and Tubingen with final qualification Ph. D.

   
1885-1886 : Post-Doctoral studies at the universities of Cambridge, Oxford and London.
   
1887 : Leaves Europe for India.
   
1888- 1899 :

Principal, Oriental College, Lahore, and the Registrar of the Punjab University. A period devoted to Sanskrit and archaeological studies in Kashmir.

   
1899- 1900 :

Principal, Madrasa College, Calcutta.

1930 –1931 :

Fourth expedition to Central Asia. ( results thwarted )

   
1932 –1940 :

Makes four expeditions to Iran, Iraq and Trans - Jordan in the Middle East.

   
1940 –1942 :

Archaeological tours in Rajasthan, Indus - Kohistan, Bhawalpur, Chilas and Las - Bela.

   
1943 :

Gets permission to explore Afghanistan for the first time in 42 years of career as an Explorer.

   
Oct 19, 1943 : Arrives in Kabul.
   
Oct 26 ,1943 :
Dies in Kabul with fate having denied him the opportunity to explore Afghanistan.
