Pandit Nityanand:

June 24, 1874. Born to Ambravati and Pandit Madhavkak in the Upper Sathu, Barbarshah locality of Srinagar.

1896 : Figures among the first Kashmiri graduates of the Punjab University, Lahore along with Agha Syed Hussain and Ved Lal Zutshi. Degree in Sanskrit with Shastri, Punjab University, Lahore.

1897 : Met India’s great saint Swami Vivekananda during his visit to Kashmir.

1898 : Medal of the Kashmir Dharma Sabha for high proficiency in Sanskrit.

1902 : First Kashmiri to top in English examination of the Punjab University, Lahore.

Governor’s medal for standing Ist in English examination of the Punjab University, Lahore.

1905 : First Kashmiri to take Sanskrit learning to Harwad University, USA.

1906 : Read out the Reception Welcome Address in Sanskrit to Lord Minto, the Viceroy of India,on his state visit to Kashmir.

1892- 1916 : Sanskrit teacher, Rajkiya Pathshala, Srinagar.

1916- 1930 : Professor of Sanskrit at Sri Pratap College, Srinagar.

1912 : Attended the Knighthood investiture ceremony of Aurel Stein held in Srinagar and also met the Viceroy Lord Hardinge during the ceremony.

1914 : Met Sir Rabindra Nath Tagore at the Reception Ceremony of his felicitation in Srinagar on being awarded the Nobel Prize for literature in 1913.

1916 : First Kahmiri to be appointed as Professor of Sanskrit at Sri Pratap College, Srinagar.

Appointed as Pandit to the Royal Courts of successive Maharajas of Jammu & Kashmir, Pratap Singh (1898) and Hari Singh (1928 )

Appointed as Member of the Committee that represented the Maharaja of Jammu & Kashmir Hari Singh, at the first Hindu Mahasamelan held at Rawalpindi in 1929 under the presidentship of Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya, the founder of Benaras Hindu University.

1912- 1914 : First Kashmiri to prepare a primer book on Kashmiri Language, published by Alpine Press , Lahore.

1928 : Founded the first widow home in Kashmir named Vanita Ashram.

1930 : Elected as Life –time President of the Kashmir Sanskrit Sahitya Parishad.

1928-1932 ; Editor , Journal of Sanskrit Literature, Kashmir.

1926- 1932 : Member Secretary, Government Board of Sanskrit Learning, Jammu & Kashmir.

1926- 1930 : Secretary ,Sanatan Dharma Sabha, Srinagar, Kashmir.

1942 : Died on 24 December,1942 at Srinagar after suffering a stroke of paralysis.
