Pandit Mukund Ram:

1860 : Born to Amrawati and Pandit Gwasha Bhat Ganjoo in the Sathu, Sadiqazi Zada locality of Srinagar.

Studied Sanskrit at the local Pathshala (school ) and later qualified himself with the degree of Shastri from Punjab University, Lahore.

1880 : Appointed as translator in the private institute of Pandit Ramjoo Dhar to get Persian and Arabic books translated in to Sanskrit.

1882-1883 : Translated Tibetan Buddhist work Kangur-Tangur consisting of 150 000 slokas in to Sanskrit.

1884 : Helped Pope Ved in preparing a book on Kashmiri grammar.

Pandit Mukand Ram

1885 : Appointed as Sanskrit teacher in the Christian Missionary School, Srinagar.

1888-1899 : Left the job as teacher and took private employment with Aurel Stein to work on the preparation of the edition and translation of Kalhana’s Rajatarangini.

1900- 1902 : Wrote Katakbhashsutra for A. W. Stratton of the Punjab University, Lahore.

1903- 1907 : Worked on the ancient history of Kashmir to assist David Brainerd Spooner of the Harward University in his work on Jonaraja’s Jaina Rajatarangini.

1908- 1909 : Assisted Orientalists like Sten Konow, A. H. Franckie and John Marshall in their epigraphical and archaeological work.

1898-1921 : On Aurel Stein’s recommendation began assisting George Grierson in the preparation of Ishwar Kaul’s Kashmiri grammar- Kashmirshabdamrita, (1898) the Dictionary of Kashmiri Language, (1898 - 1932) Ramavataracharita, (1928) Shivparinaya, (1914), Kashmiri Language, Linguistic Survey of India,(1915) Krishenavtara Lila, (1930) Mannual of Kashmiri Language, (1912)and the compilation and translation of Lalla’s verses, (1920).

1912- 1919 : Appointed Head Pandit and later rose to the position of Incharge, Research & Archaeology Department, Jammu & Kashmir.

1912 : Conferred with the title of Mahamahopadhyaya by the Viceroy, Lord Hardinge of Penhurst. (In the same year Aurel Stein too was Knighted).

1919 : Officially retired from the government employment.

1921 : Died in November 1921 at Srinagar.
