Pandit Govind Kaul: |
1846 : Born at Srinagar in the family of Pandit Balbhadra Kaul son of Pandit Taba Kaul-a scholar of high repute and thus had scholarship running in the family.
Early education and grooming in the company of Pandit Ramjoo Dhar, grandson of Pandit Birbal Dhar-a high ranking official in the court of Maharaja Ranjit Singh.
Studied Sanskrit, Persian and English. First Kashmiri along with Ramjoo Dhar to learn English.
Scholar of Alankara shastras (poetics), Vyakrana (grammar), Nyaya (logic), and Shiva Sutras. Highly knowledgeable in epics and puranas.
1874 : Appointed as Incharge, Translation Department, Jammu & Kashmir state set up by Maharaja Ranbir Singh. |

1875 : Assisted Georg Bhuler during his tour to Kashmir in search of Sanskrit manuscripts.
1884 : Translation Department, Kashmir State, -closed. Rendered un-employed.
1885 : Appointed as teacher in the State Sanskrit Pathshala (school ), Srinagar.
1888-1898 : In private employment of Aurel Stein. Worked as a co- worker with him on the edition of Rajatarangini and the preparation of the catalogue of Sanskrit manuscripts of Ranbir Library, Jammu.
1898 : Appointed again in private employment with George Grierson to work on the Dictionary of Kashmiri Language.
1899 : Died on July 2, 1899 .
