The Secretary of Order obtained the permission of the Viceroy and proceeded with the investiture of Lt Colonel Henry Beaufoy Thornhill and Dr Aurel Stein as Knight Commanders of the Most Eminent Order of the Indian empire. Both were conducted by the Secretary of Order to the presence of Grand Master. On announcement of their respective names they kneeled to the Grand Master who conferred the degree, honour of Knight Bachelor, attached the Star of Order and invested at proper place the ribbon and badge , addressing :

“In the name of the King Emperor of India and by His Majesty’s command, I hereby invest you with the honourable insignia of the Order of Indian Empire of which Most Eminent Order, His Majesty has been graciously pleased to appoint you to be a Knight Commander.”

The Secretary next obtained the permission of the Viceroy to proceed with the decoration of Mr. George Joseph Rogers with a Badge of the Imperial Service Order. Major General Farman Ali Khan and Lt Colonel Khazan Singh with the Badges of 1st class and Major Balwan Singh with a Badge of 2nd class of the Order of British India. Also presentation of Sanad to Rai Sahib Gurmukh Singh and bronze medal and certificate of Royal Humane Society to Lalla Dina Nath. With usual procedure , the Secretary announced the names and Under- Secretary handed the Badge, Sanad and Medal respectively to the Viceroy who placed and handed them at proper place to the respective recipients. The Secretary then announced no further business and the proceedings terminated. After it was completed the Maharaja conducted the Viceroy to the dinning hall. The Maharaja took the Viceroy by the left hand. He gave his right arm to Mrs Fraser. The Resident, Stuart Fraser conducted the Lady Hardinge. The procession of the guests followed towards the dinning hall. The Maharaja sat left to the Viceroy. After few minutes of conversation the Maharaja rose to propose a toast to the King Emperor and the Viceroy which was received with due honours. The Viceroy then rose to make a speech in reply and in conclusion gave the toast to the Maharaja which was drunk by all standing. Band played the Kashmir Anthem. After this the Maharaja conducted the Viceroy to the veranda of the palace to watch a display of fireworks on the river below. On the completion, the Viceroy expressed the intention of leaving, a procession was formed and the Viceroy took leave of the Maharaja at the outer gate of the palace. Again guard of honour was presented by playing the Kashmir Anthem. The Judge High Court and the Chief Minister escorted the Viceroy and Lady Hardinge to their residence.
