April 1927 Secures assistance of Pandit Nityanand Shastri to Franklin Edgerton in studying Kashmir Saivism.
   
1928 Thieves took away his KCIE insignia at Mohand Marg.
   
June 20, 1930 At Mohand Marg. Devastated to learn about the death of Thomas Arnold.
   
August 11, 1930 Leaves from Mohand Marg for fourth Chinese Turkestan expedition.
   
June 1931 Examines Sanskrit manuscripts discovered in Gilgit.
   
August 9, 1931 Regrets the outbreak of communal riots in Srinagar .
   
June 28, 1933 Camped at Ganderbal. Acknowledges Nityanand Shastri’s help to George Grierson in the preparation of the Dictionary of Kashmiri Language.
   
1934-1935 Makes few visits to Nityanand Shastri’s home at Sathu Barbar Shah Srinagar, while he was down with paralysis.
   
October 16, 1935 At Nagin Bagh, Srinagar . Seeks help from Nityanand Shastri in securing Kashmiri and Sanskrit translations of the famous 14 th century, Spanish classic - Don- Quixote.
   
October 16, 1936 Receives the Kashmiri translation of Don Quixote.
   
May 10, 1937 Acknowledges the receipt of Sanskrit translation of Don Quixote.
   
August 17, 1938 Seeks help from Pandit Nityanand Shastri for the critical Leiden Edition of the 6th century Kashmiri text - the Nilamatapurana.
   
May 1940 At Nagin Bagh, Srinagar .
   
June 1940. At Mohand Marg. Begins plans to re-edit Rajatarangini with photographs.
   
December 1940 Visits the Raghunath Temple, Jammu, after fifty years.
   
July 1941 At Mohand Marg. Finishes additional notes for the reprinting of the Rajatarangini with photographs.
   
December 24, 1942 Death of Nityanand Shastri - Stein’s last anchor in Kashmir .
   
April, 1943. In Srinagar with Neve - the doctor of the CMS Hospital .
   
.October 9, 1943 Makes third codicil of his Will at Srinagar .
   
October 10, 1943 Makes last visit to Srinagar Church along with Neves.
   
October 11, 1943 Leaves Srinagar from the Neves’ home for the last time never to return.
